Exchange 2016 offline address book not updating clients
This document seeks to address and clarify the small misunderstanding surrounding the GAL (Global Address List) and the OAB (Offline Address Book).
Now you would wonder why it is showing Exchange 2013 OAB name. This is one of the OMG situation because you saw the warning that you can’t install Exchange 2013 any more while updating active directory and Exchange 2013 is there. The file location is correct and shows where the current OAB files are.I verified the file location manually but also noticed the date discrepancy (the blue rectangles in the above image) which shows the date the attempted download was made (upper left) and the date of the files (lower right). This situation however is extremely rare since the default maintenance time on Exchange is at AM and updates and downloads are usually performed during working hours.
*** NOTE: The GAL is essentially a real-time / online representation of AD Objects that are Mail Enabled for Microsoft Exchange *** The GAL contains information for all email enabled users, Distribution Groups, and Shared Mailboxes and Exchange Resource Mailboxes.
What ended up happening is about a day later if a user tried to manually download the address book, they would not be able to and would get a 0x80190194 error: Troublshooting So what is this? Well, let’s look at the log files for OAB downloading.
